HOT TUB KNOW HOW
Martin’s Garden Center takes great pride in our Beachcomber Hot Tub line of hot tubs and accessories. By having some background information, we think you’ll appreciate the same quality product we do.
SIZE:
The first consideration is usage. Are there just two of you and occasional guests? Are there more using it on a regular basis? Knowing these answers will help you determine the size of the hot tub you’ll want.
A hot tub can be measured by the number of occupants or by width and length. Martin’s Garden Center has the size to fit your needs; from a comfortable 2-person to several which will accommodate 8 people. Measurements are available for each tub in order for you to determine your perfect fit.
SEATING:
When choosing the right hot tub, seating is an important factor. Each contoured seat ensures the occupant the utmost comfort whether sitting or reclining. Beachcomber Hot Tub is above the rest because it actually provides a resting seat. It gives you the chance to sit higher than the other comfortable seating as a transition from warm water to the outside. It also functions as an excellent and safe exit position.
Oneof the best advantages of a hot tub is the therapeutic jets. With every size tub is the strategically placed equipment. Each is engineered to provide the correct pressure and is fully adjustable. This also includes the ever-so-relaxing foot massage. Beachcomber Hot Tub prides itself on the interchangeable jets so owners may mix and match to customize the massage. With up to 164 jet combinations, there’s one to fit your individual needs.
To see which design is best for you, climb in and actually sit in a display model. This allows you to feel the luxury of each contoured seating position, envision where the jets’ streams would create the optimum massage and enables you to physically appreciate the tub’s advantages.
LOCATION:
Visualize where you would best enjoy you new hot tub. The advantage of a Beachcomber Hot Tub is that it can be placed on as simple a surface as 6 inches of leveled gravel. Because you control you hot tub’s location and not location controlling you, almost anywhere in your landscape has the potential to be the perfect spot. Feel free to discuss your location choice with our representatives and/or the landscape department at Martin’s Garden Center.
CONSTRUCTION:
It is important to be familiar with construction of a hot tub to appreciate its quality. Beachcomber Hot Tub is not just a thing of beauty, but with its exclusive, patented construction, all 4 walls are insulated for the most energy efficiency and strength. These high-quality materials and workmanship create maintenance-free exterior which can withstand the elements of Tioga County.
Along with these features is the cover. It should seal in the water’s temperature in any weather, be UV resistantand possess an effective moisture barrier. Beachcomber Hot Tub has earned the right to claim the ‘PowerSmart’ certificate for its superior cover construction.
MOTOR:
Since the motor is the heart of the hot tub, power is ultimately important. Beachcomber Hot Tub series have 2 pumps created for the best possible power and quiet efficiency. Located under the step keeps each easily accessible and allows the tub’s cavity to be better insulated.
ACCESSORIES:
Special touches can make a BIG difference in your choice of a tub. Beachcomber Hot Tub makes it possible for you to customize your tub with items which you equate with luxury.

MOSS-Mess or Marvel?
It depends on the gardener claiming moss as a feature who will proclaim it as a mess to clear out or an attractive accent.
Where moss is found usually indicates a problem shady area. The soil tends to be compacted, drains poorly and leans toward being acidic. Is this a problem? Moss can be viewed as a beautiful, rich, velvety carpet and the answer to this area. This type of natural landscape creates a no-mow area where grasses have lost the battle.
If you wish to transplant clumps, try to recreate their condition as on the forest floor. Keep them moist the first year until established and spreading.
Encouraging the moss colonies already growing might be the easier route to take. Clean the surrounding area of weeds, what grass remains and any debris that could smother new colonies. This should persuade the naturalized colonies to spread further. However, a mixture of 1 quart buttermilk and 1gallon water sprayed over the area in mid spring promotes new spore development and expansion. Water throughout the summer to keep the colonies moist.
Moss not the ideal situation in the landscape? Raking and clearing the moss colonies won’t be enough. A few minor changes might solve the problem though. Since soil condition is part of the problem, digging small trenches to divert excess water, aerating to adjust compacted soil as well as adding lime to raise the pH and enriching the soil with organic material will improve it. The heavy shade can be alleviated by removing obstructions to allow more light.
Martin’s Garden Center is always ready to help with any solution to your moss mess or marvel.

THE TOOL
SHED
FIRESTARTERS:
Outdoor fire pits are becoming more and more popular in the landscape. A quick and simple fire starter is on old wine cork. Store old corks in a jar filled with rubbing alcohol. Toss one under the kindling in your fire pit when starting a fire. The cork will catch fire quickly due to the flammable alcohol, and will stay lit long enough to ignite the kindling.
Fill a toilet roll tube with shredded paper. Lay this with kindling and use as a starter. It’s another way to recycle.
DRY GLOVES & SHOES:
When working in the garden, few things are more irritating than putting on wet gloves. To solve this problem, puncture several holes in the sides of an empty soda can. Place the wet glove’s sleeve over the top opening and set both out in the sun. The can will allow good air circulation inside that will dry the glove faster. Slide a stick up one finger and the glove will stand to help the drying process.
No matter what type of garden shoe, wet is still wet and uncomfortable. Stuffing it with crumbled newspaper assists with the drying process, fights odor and enables them to keep their shape.
